AUDI9 SNOBBERY
"But in the moth-eaten gloom of my shabby room, I saw the strangest manifestation."
Keen never again to persist in tardiness, hot on the heels of our eighth playlist, and on the eve of a new decade, we are proud to present our ninth release, AUDI9 SNOBBERY. This is the last of this particular series and will be followed by something particularly special we have been preparing for you, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't pause to enjoy this release, since it's as good as ever.
As with our eighth number, reaching consensus for number nine was a less conflict-inducing affair than prior releases. Our friendship appears to be cementing rather than fracturing as the concentric circles of our music taste continue to elide: AUDI9 SNOBBERY is full of some consistent Snob favourites.
Beginning with Dumbo Gets Mad (and to demonstrate we don't only listen to old music), Makes You Fly will indeed do so as we take off. This is followed by a sensational sequence of tracks – we wanted to call attention to a finite number, but as we started counting the jams down the playlist, we realised every single one is an absolute must-listen. Whether it's The The's TheWhisperers (demonstrating Matt Johnson's ability to appeal long after his golden decade), Booker T.'s Sunday Sermon, Orange Juice's What Presence?!, Kali Uchis' Rush, or Róisín Murphy's magnificent new track, Incapable, all of these tracks are fucking great. We are five very smug Snobs right now.
It doesn't stop there; we've got Jai Paul, Big L, Lou Dillon (her fantastic single, Burn, cannot be missed), and Help Me Stranger, the latest from Jack White's returning Raconteurs.
Efterklang, whose phenomenal Piramida [Editor's note: if you haven't listen to this, do so immediately] left a lasting musical imprint on your dear Snobs some seven years ago – as our friendships were only just beginning – have returned with the hauntingly beautiful Vi er uendelig, sung in their native Danish. Penguin Cafe Orchestra's Lifeboat (Lovers Rock) and Bowie's A New Career In Town are also there to help instrumentally calm things down, should you be getting too excited.
But enough from us – what are you waiting for? Dive in and let your soul be healed.
With love, as ever.
